The School of Law at University of Galway was delighted to welcome a delegation from the China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) on the 18th of September 2025.  The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen academic cooperation and deepen research ties between the two institutions.

Professor Martin Hogg, Dean of the School of Law, outlined the School’s current teaching and research priorities before opening a lively discussion session. This provided an opportunity for academics from both institutions to share their research interests and expertise, showcase flagship projects, and explore emerging opportunities for collaboration.

Professor Hogg commented: “International partnerships like this are essential for the future of legal education and research.  By bringing together diverse perspectives, we not only broaden our own horizons but also create the foundations for meaningful opportunities for researchers and students.”

Discussions with visiting colleagues provide an invaluable forum for identifying overlapping research interests and fostering collaborative thinking.  Comparative and international perspectives are particularly important, as they allow researchers to situate their work in a global context, learn from different legal traditions, and develop insights that contribute to both national and international debates.
