Second Year Commerce and B.Comm (Global) Information

This is an important year for you.  Your results this year count towards 30% of your degreeand your final year results count for 70% of your degree award. You may also be interviewing in just over a years time for graduate positions.  Potential employers will be interested in the grades you achieve on your first- and second-year commerce examination transcripts.

The structure of your commerce degree:

  • A study of each of the business disciplines in the first year and second year

  • Specialisation/stream in your area of interest in the second half (semester II) of the second year and throughout final year.

  • Obligatory (core) modules each year.

Pay particular attention to modules that challenge you and endeavour to work hard and do well in them as your performance in all modules counts towards your overall degree result.

If you have not yet had an opportunity to become involved with the multitude of activities and events on offer with clubs and societies at the university, we urge you to do so this year.  Your university years are a time not only for academic development but also for the exploration of new interests and activities as well as for your personal growth and development.  Also, through these non-academic activities, there is an opportunity to enhance, develop and demonstrate a range of transferrable skills of interest to employers.

As always, we strive to ensure your learning experience is of the highest standard and therefore welcome any suggestions you may have which would add further value for you and your classmates.
